this is not true in my experience. one host that never sucks is pair.com. there are others–some even better–but less well known than pair.com.

btw, imho this is a more accurate way to calculate your ratio:

“bluehost sucks” = 2,070
“bluehost rocks” = 1,570

total sucks + hates = 3,640

2070 / 3640 = 0.56868

sucks / total = 56.87 %

At first, we are reluctant to use the “Bluehost Rocks” search results because we know that very satisfied customers don’t make noise as much as those who think a hosting “sucks”. So there will be less “Hosting-X Rocks” pages to look at.

Actually, we found some interesting facts from our new Bluehost Rating analysis.

However, we have to disagree with you about Pair.com because their comparable package is priced at $50. That is about 10 times more expensive than Bluehost. With that price, you can get a dedicated server or 10 shared hosting accounts from Bluehost, and almost any hosting will treat you well if you are willing to pay that much 🙂

I wrote a post recently that described my suspension.at BH My account was suspended because I purportedly was ‘backing up or archiving files’. I asked the question: What is a backup or archive with respect to a site? If I put zip files on the site is that a prohibited backup? This is important because BH will suspend your account WITHOUT NOTICE if it ‘feels’ you are backing up files.

So my question remains valid. BH needs to state what a backup or archive is or is not. The Terms and Conditions does not tell us.

This is very important, and a number of people have been suspended. If I have a client with a site that includes a zip or archive BH may ‘feel’ this is objectionable. Then WITHOUT NOTICE BH may shut down or suspend the ENTIRE HOSTED ACCOUNT. That’s right, every client that you sold a site to will be suspended. So there is a huge revenue concern here.

(this was a post at the BH forum). They bait and switch with the “unlimited space” advertisement . The space is limited.

I hope you don’t take the word “unlimited” to mean infinite. Realistically, it just means that you get enough space more than you ever need for a regular use, or it is something like an unreachable limit. Read their TOS. If are hosting a file/movie/photo/archive sharing, get a dedicated server! I am sure you can reason with them if only one client of yours is misbehaving and they can shutdown that one account.

The “abusers” make life of decent users like us harder than it should be, when the web hosts put more and more constraints on what we can do on our hosting account.

I agree with you about these deceiving “unlimited space” advertising slogans. There should be a line between false advertising and otherwise acceptable “puffing”. This is not specific only to this web host. They are all doing it – they are only a few hosts not using such advertising today.

But we will grow to accept them in our life, just like we accepted phrases like “It keeps going, and going, and going…” by Energizer – Do you believe that they are selling batteries with unlimited life? Or my wireless provider is giving unlimited free landline calls – does that mean I can start calling everyone in the phone directory and sell them my homemade cookies…? I wish.

I am very happy with Bluehost’s service. I signed up with 1and1 for a client site and have been trying to cancel that account for a year and a half now. I work on the Net and my husband has a computer science degree from MIT and *we* found the cancellation process Byzantine, to say the least. Three times we were told it was cancelled, only to be billed again, one of which went into collection because, silly me, I believed the email that said it had been cancelled. And now we’re being billed for the late fee because of that collection. I will pay it, of course, but these practices are seriously edging close to being fraudulent.

We have talked with myriad people there, the most recent of which admitted that it would do us no good to complain. Good companies with good services do not treat their customers this way. As I said, I’m delighted with Bluehost and recommend them highly.

My site has been up and down all day. Midphase. Have been good until now. Was down one day last week too. Offer 24/7 support but if they are down is no good. Am thinking of going somewhere else.

Right now is down. And they keep giving me canned excuses.
